Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is one of the longest established (1970), largest and most academically respected Institutes of Technology in Ireland. It is an autonomous Higher Education Institution operating within the Irish National Qualifications Network. The awards from WIT are recognised worldwide and graduates of the Institute occupy senior positions in major companies in Ireland, the EU and further afield.
Undergraduate at WIT
WIT delivers courses with a vocational focus at degree, sub-degree and postgraduate levels. Undergraduate courses are available at Higher Certificate (2 years), Degree (3 years) and Honours Degree (4 years) levels. WIT also offers postgraduate programmes upto PhD level.
In addition to these programmes, WIT can offer customised Summer Schools and Year or Semester abroad programmes.
WIT offers courses in business studies, computing and information technology, laboratory and field sciences, engineering, humanities and health sciences. The School of Humanities offers courses in hospitality management in addition to the traditional fields of arts, music and law. Our School of Engineering offers courses in architecture, architectural technology and construction management in addition to electronic, civil, mechanical and manufacturing engineering.
Research at WIT
Because of its important role in the development of the South East region of Ireland, WIT has a strong focus on research and innovation. It has been extremely successful in attracting external research funding from national agencies, industry and commerce and the European Union research programmes. The flagship research centre in WIT is the Telecommunications Software and Systems Group, which undertakes world class research and hosts a significant number of visiting professors, postdoctoral scholars and postgraduate students.
Student Life at WIT
There are many active student clubs and societies within the Institute to cater for all hobbies and interests, including some dedicated to the interests of international students. In addition, we have extensive student support services, and are particularly sensitive to the special needs of overseas students. Our international office staff advise and help on all student issues and concerns.
Accommodation at WIT
We provide excellent apartment-style accommodation for all our students on or near the campus. These have single or double study bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms, with shared kitchen and living room. All apartments are fully furnished and equipped, and heating and electricity is included. In cases where students desire private accommodation, WIT's Accommodation Office will provide assistance. The Institute does not offer homestay accommodation.
International Scholarships at WIT
WIT awards a significant number of international scholarships each year to all nationalities across each academic discipline, provided they successfully meet the set criteria in that particular year. Scholarship offerings may vary slightly from country to country.
