Why study at Galway Mayo Institute of Technology?

    • Situated on the West coast of Ireland along Ireland’s ‘Wild Atlantic Way’, GMIT is an award-winning multi-campus higher education institute with 7,000 students, spread across five locations in counties Galway and Mayo. It is the only Institute of Technology in Ireland to have won the ‘Sunday Times Institute of Technology of the Year’ three times; in 2004, 2007 and 2015. GMIT affords students the opportunity to study in one of Ireland’s leading university-level higher education institutes while enjoying one of Europe’s most beautiful and unique natural landscapes.

    • GMIT offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a broad range of disciplines including business, accounting, software development, engineering, sciences (including health science), agriculture, wood technology, design and tourism & arts. GMIT awards are recognised on Ireland’s National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) which ensures all qualifications are quality-assured and recognised internationally.

    • Many programmes also enjoy prestigious professional accreditation in disciplines including Accounting (ACCA, CPA, ACA & CIMA), Engineering (Engineers Ireland), Medical Science (Academy of Clinical & Laboratory Medicine; Ireland and IBMS; UK), and Forensic Science & Analysis (The Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences: CSFS).

    • GMIT offers Ireland’s only Joint International Master of Science in Marine Biodiversity & Conversation Studies (run in conjunction with Ghent University, Belgium and supported by the Erasmus + Programme). GMIT also offers a standalone MSc in Applied Marine Conservation. Both programmes are delivered by the Department of Natural Sciences and the internationally recognised Marine & Freshwater Research Centre (MFRC) at GMIT.

    • All GMIT programmes are closely aligned with industry and many programmes also include an accredited work-placement (internship) enabling students to put into practice the theoretical component of their study. Galway is home to many global companies and this important link with industry, along with the strong focus on student experience, is why many international students continue to choose GMIT as their preference for overseas study.

    • GMIT’s student population includes over 70 different nationalities and with over 60 clubs and societies there is so much to offer international students. Activities ranging from table tennis to traditional music, from skateboarding to surfing are all available.
