The Irish Aid Fellowships are awarded by Department of Foreign Affairs and are targeted mainly at the countries in which Ireland has established development cooperation programmes: Ethiopia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Timor Leste and Vietnam.

Applications for Fellowships should go directly to Irish Embassies abroad or to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin.Fellowships are usually awarded for postgraduate studies in Ireland, in areas relevant to the development of the individual's home country, such as education, health, agriculture/ rural development, and development studies.

The Fellowship Training Programme seeks to address capacity deficits in the programme countries that hinder the attainment of long -term development goals. Funding is generally offered to nationals from developing countries for long-term Diploma and Degree courses at post-graduate level in Irish third level institutions. Fellowship recipients are committed, on completion of their training, to returning home to resume work and putting their acquired skills into practice for the benefit of the wider community.
