UCD Engineering Study Abroad Programme

The UCD Engineering Study Abroad Programme offers visiting undergraduate students a unique educational opportunity to participate fully in the academic and social life of one of Ireland's largest universities, offering the widest range of engineering disciplines. The Engineering education philosophy at UCD, emphasises mastery of analytical skills and the use of quantitative methods.

Facilities

The UCD Engineering and Material Science Centre houses the UCD School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering and the UCD School of Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering. The UCD Newstead Building is the location of the UCD School of Architecture, Landscape and Civil Engineering. Engineering Study Abroad students will attend lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals and other module activities in these buildings, but lectures also take place throughout the UCD Belfield campus, so students experience a variety of locations, lecture theatres, seminar rooms and laboratories.

Engineering Subject Choices

Engineering Study Abroad students may select modules from the following Engineering programme majors:

  • Biosystems Engineering
  • Bioprocess Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

Module selection is subject to satisfactory academic background, to timetabling constraints and the availability of places.

Module Details

Details of the modules in the Engineering Programmes may be obtained from:

www.ucd.ie/students/course_search.htm

You may select modules from more than one degree programme provided there are no timetable conflicts. Students attending UCD for the full academic session may take up to 60 ECTS credits whie students attending for one semester may take up to 30 ECTS credits.

Assessment

Assessment is based on a combination of in-semester components such as mid-semester tests, laboratory practical reports, projects and homework assignments, and formal examinations which take place the end of each semester, i.e. in December and May. Study Abroad students are expected to undertake all assessments in accordance with University regulations.
