Siobhan Allaeddini from California and Caela Provost from Massachussetts have been selected as Student Ambassadors for NUI-Galway and University of Limerick. A new initiative by Education in Ireland, the Student Ambassador Programme is aimed at raising awareness of the quality of Irish degree and Study Abroad programmes, while also assisting and encouraging interested students as they embark on their applications. Ireland is a popular destination for American students – the ninth most popular destination in the world – because of our worldwide reputation for high quality education and our reputation for offering the warmest of welcomes to students from all over the world.

Brown University has partnered with Trinity College Dublin as part of the Brown Plus One program for students interested in international study. Jane Ohlmeyer, vice provost for global relations at Trinity College, visited Brown to sign a partnership agreement on April 25, 2012. Trinity College is the third international partner in the Brown Plus One initiative.

SHANGHAI, China and Dublin, Ireland 20 April 2012: University College Dublin (UCD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a leading Chinese dairy producer Dairy United. The MOU which will result in multi-million euro contracts for products & services, envisages the development of a China-Ireland Agricultural demonstration farm in Hohhot, (Inner Mongolia) collaborative research projects, the provision of education, and training services, and collaboration on the creation of a trade corridor to facilitate the introduction of Irish exporters to the Inner Mongolian region. The Dairy United/UCD link was established through contacts made by Enterprise Ireland over the past 18 months.

In a ceremony at Ireland’s Department of Education and Skills on Friday 20th April, Education in Ireland’s first ever group of student Ambassadors will be presented with certificates of achievement by Secretary General, Seán Ó Foghlú. Twenty – two Ambassadors from 16 different States in the US and representing all seven Irish universities will be present to receive their awards.
The student Ambassdor’s role is to blog several times each semester on their experience of living and studying in Ireland and to represent their Irish universities when called on. In addition, when these students return home they will from time to time work with Education in Ireland and the Irish universities at promotional events in their area.

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD recently launched the office of the University of Limerick in China. Based in Beijing, the office aims to increase UL’s profile in this key market for the Irish Education sector. UL currently has over 100 Chinese students at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level.

Education in Ireland and the Irish universities were delighted to extend the warmest of welcomes this March to a group of 21 Counsellors- representing high schools across North America.
The six day tour included visits to all seven of the Universities in the Republic of Ireland. Participants toured the Irish campuses, met staff and students and gained an insight on Ireland’s quality educational offering. Along the way there were plenty of opportunities to experience Irish culture first hand.

Education in Ireland and Irish universities are delighted to extend the warmest of welcomes our first group of High School College Counsellors to visit all seven universities. The group of 21 Counsellors - who represent schools across several US States and Canada - arrived in Ireland on Sunday March 4th. The week-long event was opened with a reception at Trinity College Dublin where the group was treated to tour of science gallery and some stunning singing and musical performances by the Trinity student group Forte. In warmly welcoming the group on behalf of the Irish universities, Professor Jane Ohlmeyer spoke of the deep connections between Ireland and North America, particularly in Education and promised the group a very enlightening visit.
